Enriching lives in Costa Rica

As many of you know, AYSO 1258 periodically donates equipment and uniforms to foreign countries for their soccer players. This year we have chosen to make donations to Costa Rica.
Although the beaches of Costa Rica are filled with tourists, the interior of the country has many towns and villages that gather every Saturday for soccer. The entire town will get on a bus and go to a neighboring village to enjoy the day. They break the players into 3 different age groups: the younger players, the middle players and the adults. Their uniforms consist of a colored t-shirt. Some children even play bare footed. A pair of cleats is like gold and will be shared if at all possible. Referees aren’t all decked out like ours with striped shirts, whistles and flags and the goals don’t even have nets. What they do have is FUN. Just like us!
If you are ready to clean out your child’s extra equipment, we will have collection boxes available at both the Community Park snack bar and at the registration table at Crossing Park this Saturday, November 5th. You will have additional opportunities to donate at Community Park during practice times November 7-11 and on Saturday, November 12th.
We would appreciate donations of the following items:
- Old Uniforms (shirts, shorts, socks)
- Shin Guards
- Cleats
- Balls (all sizes)
- Referee uniforms and equipment
- Practice Equipment – Cones, nets etc.
- Unwanted Halloween Candy
Thank you for taking the time to make children far away very happy!
DON’T FORGET TO REGISTER YOUR CHILD THIS SATURDAY FOR THE SPRING SEASON!
